Loupe Shader

See what your shader nodes really look like

Live rendered previews above every node in Blender · Cycles and EEVEE · Blender 4.2–5.3

What it does

A preview above every node

Every node, rendered

A live preview above each node: noise as noise, ramps as gradients, bump as relief, the Output as the finished material on real geometry. Change a value, every preview follows.

Look at it from every side

Turn, zoom, pan, free-fly. A Large View, a Backdrop behind the tree, a 3D Pop-Out you can orbit. Your own mesh or a primitive, studio HDRIs or your own, a sun you move and color, a lens from 12 to 120 mm with its readout.

Clean trees, one click

Tidy, Straighten Links with Reroutes (on a selection or the whole tree), Label & Frame, Compact, Color by Category, Focus Selected. Hand it over clean.

Works in Cycles and in EEVEE. Switch with one click and every preview follows, displacement included, on the real mesh. One shared camera for the previews, the Large View and the Pop-Out.

Every node

The way it is meant to be seen

Normals as lit relief. Displacement on real geometry. Coordinates as a grid. Volumes as fog. Glass on a checker. Constants as their number. Mix Shader as three balls.

World trees as mirror and chrome balls, light trees as the light on a wall. Node groups, inside and out. OSL, Attribute and Object Info reading the real object.

Range Check

Catch mistakes early

Range Check stripes every value outside what its input can take. Pin a before, change anything, drag the divider.

Tooltips explain every preview, for anyone still learning nodes.

And the rest

There is more

Point atTap a tile to play its clip.

Pin a before, drag the divider.
Studio HDRIs, your own HDRI, or a sun.
Move the sun, color the sun, on your own mesh.
Node groups, inside and out.
Everything updates live, displacement included.
Your own mesh, or a primitive.
Rotate Together: turn one, they all follow.
Tooltips made for learning.
World trees too: drag the sun, the sky follows.
Animated textures: scrub, they follow.
Size, corners, soft edges, borders.
Off, Selected, All, Focus Selected.
Cycles or EEVEE, one click.
12 to 120 mm or orthographic, with the readout.
Many outputs? V steps through them.
Glass and volumes, from every side.

Requirements

What it needs

  • Blender 4.2 LTS to 5.3, checked on every release in between.
  • Cycles and EEVEE, both.
  • Windows and macOS, tested. Linux should work but was not tested.
  • A GPU for Cycles previews: NVIDIA fastest; AMD, Apple Silicon and Intel Arc supported; CPU fallback. EEVEE previews on any GPU.
  • Runs one or two extra Blender processes in the background for the previews.
