Loupe Shader · Terms of Sale and License
Terms of sale
These terms apply when you buy or download Loupe Shader, the add-on for Blender ("Loupe Shader" or "the add-on"). By buying, downloading, installing or using Loupe Shader you agree to them. If you buy through a store, that store's own terms also apply to the purchase itself.
1. The software license: GPL
Loupe Shader's code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or (at your option) any later version (GPL-2.0-or-later). The full text is in the LICENSE file included with the add-on, and at https://www.gnu.org/licenses/.
In plain words (the LICENSE text is what legally counts):
- You may use Loupe Shader for any purpose, personal or commercial. There is no license key and nothing to activate.
- Your purchase is per person. A single license is for one person, on that person's own computers. A studio license covers up to 10 people (Studio) or up to 25 people (Large studio) working at one studio; for more people, write to support@blacklykhen.com. The download, the updates in section 2 and the support in section 4 are tied to your order and to the people it covers.
- The GPL's own terms on studying, changing and passing on the code apply as the
LICENSEtext states them. - Your own work is yours. Images, renders, materials,
.blendfiles and anything else you make with Loupe Shader are not covered by the GPL, and we claim no rights in them.
Nothing in these terms takes away any right the GPL gives you. If anything here seems to conflict with the GPL, the GPL wins for the software.
2. What you are paying for
The price pays for:
- the ready-to-install add-on, delivered by the checkout you bought it from (our website's Lemon Squeezy checkout, or Gumroad), for the number of people your license covers (section 1);
- updates to Loupe Shader for all 1.x versions, delivered the same way;
- support as described in section 4;
- supporting further development.
Buying does not give you ownership of the Loupe Shader or Black Lykhen names or logos (see section 6).
3. System requirements
Loupe Shader needs Blender 4.2 or later and is tested on the Blender versions listed in the manual (section 2, Minimum requirements & compatibility). Speed and some features depend on your graphics card, its driver, and the Blender version you use. Please check the requirements before you buy.
4. Support
- We offer support by email at support@blacklykhen.com and through the store's messages, in English, and aim to reply within 3 business days.
- Support covers installing Loupe Shader, how its features work, and problems with Loupe Shader itself on a supported Blender version and computer.
- Support does not cover Blender itself, graphics drivers or hardware, other add-ons, changes you made to the code, custom work, or teaching general Blender or shading skills.
- A Copy Diagnostics report (in the add-on's panel) helps us a great deal. See the Privacy Policy (
PRIVACY.md) for what it contains. - We try to keep Loupe Shader working with new Blender releases but cannot promise that every future Blender version will be supported, or supported on the day it comes out.
5. Refunds
- Loupe Shader is sold on our website, where the checkout is run by Lemon Squeezy, and on Gumroad. If Loupe Shader does not work on your computer and we cannot fix the problem, or it does not do what its description says, write to support@blacklykhen.com with your order number within 14 days of buying and we will refund you in full, through the checkout you bought from. Gumroad's own refund policy also applies to purchases made there.
- Because Loupe Shader is GPL software that you keep once it is downloaded, we do not otherwise refund a purchase just because you changed your mind, except where the law where you live gives you that right.
- Customers in the EU, UK and similar places: by downloading straight away you agree that delivery starts immediately, and you acknowledge that you lose the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for digital content once the download begins. This does not affect the refund promise above, or your legal rights if the software is faulty.
6. Names and logos
"Loupe Shader" and "Black Lykhen", and their logos, identify our products. The GPL covers the code, not these names. If you share a changed version of Loupe Shader, please give it a different name, and do not suggest it comes from or is supported by us.
Loupe Shader is an independent product. It is not made, endorsed or supported by the Blender Foundation. Blender is a registered trademark of the Blender Foundation.
7. Using Loupe Shader responsibly
You are responsible for the files you open with Loupe Shader, and for having the right to use them, including client and third-party material. Loupe Shader writes working copies of the material you are previewing to your own computer's temporary folder (see PRIVACY.md).
8. Disclaimer: no warranty
Loupe Shader is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. This matches sections 11 and 12 of the GPL.
In particular, and without limiting the above:
- Previews are approximations. Thumbnails and the Pop-Out are fast previews rendered at low resolution and sample counts, often with a different engine, lighting, shape or color settings than your final render. Always check color, value and look in a real render before relying on them for client, print or production work. The Value Readout and Range Check are guides, not measurements for color-critical or technical work.
- Keep backups. Loupe Shader stores its settings in your
.blendfile, and its Organize Nodes tools move, label and frame nodes. Blender, its background render processes or your graphics driver can crash or run out of memory, especially on heavy scenes. Save often, keep backups and use version control for important files. - It uses your hardware hard. Loupe Shader starts extra background copies of Blender that use your graphics card, memory and disk while you work.
- Other software changes. New Blender versions, graphics drivers, operating systems and other add-ons can change or break how Loupe Shader works.
We do not promise that Loupe Shader will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every computer, Blender version or other add-on.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, work, profits, revenue, business, clients, goodwill or deadlines, arising from buying, using or being unable to use Loupe Shader, even if we were told such damages were possible.
- Our total liability for any claim about Loupe Shader is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Some countries and states do not allow these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud), or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live, such as rights when a product is faulty or not as described.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for future versions or sales. The terms in force when you bought still apply to that purchase, unless the law requires otherwise or you agree to the new ones.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. Disputes that cannot be settled by talking to us are brought before the competent courts of the Republic of Korea, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
